About the Artist
Charlene Thomas was born in Gary, Indiana. She attended Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan, and graduated in 1960 with a degree in secretarial science. After graduation she married Jim Thomas and moved to Loma Linda, California. In 1972 the couple moved to Longwood, Florida, with their two daughters.
After a long absence from academia, Charlene decided to pursue a life-long dream and returned to college to work on a degree in art. She graduated in 1998 with a Bachelor of Art in Studio Arts from Stetson University in Deland, Florida.
Charlene has shown her work since 1994 when she curated a show called Artists and Friends. In 2001 one of her paintings was in the exhibition From Grandmother’s Brush at the Orlando Museum of Art. Her work is included in numerous private collections.
Charlene is the cofounder of ILMA, I Love My Art, a group that gets together weekly and supports each other in their creativity. Since it was founded in 1992, she shows her work annually with this group.
Attending workshops by Steve Aimone of Aimone Art Services continues to inspire her. In her studio she continues to enjoy the process of art making and explore new possibilities.
